The largest of the several inshore islands east of Savannah, Wilmington Island is mainly residential in nature and is dotted with heavily forested neighborhoods, parks and recreational facilities. The island’s business district is the site of numerous restaurants, two supermarkets and a variety of retail stores. Drive along the picturesque Wilmington Island road and admire the beautifully crafted low country style homes and stately mansions built along the Wilmington River (deep water). It is also home to the Wilmington Island Club, a Donald Ross golf course and beautiful clay tennis courts.
Whitemarsh Island offers the serenity and views of island living with all of the conveniences of suburbia. There are plenty of opportunities for shopping (some of our favorite boutiques are here) and the island is home to an elementary school, a middle school, a high school and the area’s police substation. There is a popular YMCA complete with miles of walking, running, biking or dog walking trails. Whitemarsh is also home to the Savannah Yacht Club for all you sailing and fishing aficionados. Minutes from downtown and the beach (and pretty much everywhere in Savannah) this is a great community for all interests and lifestyles.
